Shylock's First Scene Shylocks First Scene Shylocks first scene in The Merchant of Venice is important because it sets the tone for the audiences view of him throughout the play. I have never seen the play performed, but it has been my experience that an audience will form an opinion of a character upon first seeing them. There are many different ways of portraying Shylock in his first scene. I will be focussing on portraying Shylock as a villain. I understand that his role is villainous, but various actors and directors have actually portrayed him differently. I like to think of my way, as the way Shakespeare himself would have done it. During a production of Merchant the audience will see Shylock before they hear him, so I will start with his appearance. Shylock first appears in Act 1, Scene 3. He needs to be an old man stricken in years, but only in the face. It should be a little wrinkled, and his hair ought to be gray. It is important that in his first scene Shylock stands up straight and appears strong and confident. Shylock shall lose this confidence and posture by the end of my production, but for this scene he must be on the verge of arrogance. He should be outfitted in a Jewish garbadine, a garment of rich material but a dull shade and it must fit him well. This will give the appearance that he is rich, but not trying to brag about it. It is important to note here that Bassanio must appear in mild dress. He should not depict a commoner, but at the same time not be wearing anything flashy, this will add to the grandeur of Shylocks clothing. I would also have Shylock and Bassanio walk about the rear of the st age and appear to be speaking to each other. New Belgium also supports involvement of their employees, each employee acts as an owner within their own departments, which contributes to their successful environmental project implementations. c) Utilized Green Design throughout our Building By starting so small, New Belgium was able to be more focused into the quality of the beer and any decisions that needed to be made almost in an instant. But with a lack of resources, their process at the time was not efficient in meeting their demands from consumers. By the time they were able to purchase a new location; they designed a state-of-the-art custom built facility and is considered more efficient than standard brewers. With the new available resource, they were able to increase production efficiently while maintaining the quality their customers expect. Taking advantage of the abundant sunshine in Fort Collins, the company maximizes the amount of light produced by the sun with sun-tubes, UV blocking windows, and light shelves. Using evaporative coolers to condition their 55,000 square foot packaging hall instead of compressors uses less energy which lowers the power consumptions, and in it return reduces costs. Abortion: Different Sides When the topic of abortion is brought up, many people have different opinions. The only way we can have a sense of how the situation feels and the circumstances are from someone who has experienced it themselves; the mother. Here is a true story from Becca and her fight for life: â€Å"I write to you as an abortion survivor. My mother went to a clinic at 22weeks to get rid of me, most were appalled that she waited so long. Well to make a long story short they gave her the saline solution...or gave it to me rather. I was burned and poisoned but it didn't kill me. She never went into labor and so she figured she had to carry me to term but it didn't matter. I was dead or so she thought. 25 weeks came and went [†¦] she felt me still kicking. So she went back, the doc found me still breathing and he offered a partial birth abortion. My mom said she needed to think on that one and so we went back home. At thirty weeks, she never went back and she was starting to wonder about me, wa s I even still alive? I wasn't kicking as much anymore. Well she went into labor at 35 weeks, average gestation and all. I was born, my skin was red and scarred, my hair was gone and I was blind...the salt solution burned my eyes. The nurses were mortified from what my mom tells me, said I looked like Freddy Kruger. I had to have a lung transplant because my right lung was too burned up to function right. I was taken home, eventually my scars cleared up but I never got my sight back. I'm glad in a way that I couldn't see, after what my mom had done to me I could never look her in the eye anyway and hold back the contempt. Time passed, I'm 22 and married with a sweet baby of my own. My son Tristan came to me on February 27, 2002 and was perfectly healthy.
